Families experiencing infertility in Turkey have come together once again to make their voices heard. The Infertility Struggle Research and Solidarity Association (İMAD-DER), the only civil society organization operating in this field throughout the country, stated in a statement that the infertility rate is 24 percent worldwide, while this rate has reached 20 percent in Türkiye.
INFERTILITY FAMILIES ARE WAITING FOR STATE SUPPORT
İMAD-DER drew attention to the fact that families experiencing infertility have been deprived of sufficient state support for years. The fact that medications are not covered by the Social Security Institution, disease reports that are difficult to obtain, and insensitivity to solution suggestions make treatment processes even more difficult. The association made the call by saying, "Infertile families survive with love, patience, and loyalty. However, we need state support during the treatment process."
POPULATION DISCUSSION AND POLICY PRIORITY CRITICISM
The statement reminded that the decrease in the population growth rate in Turkey is on the agenda, and stated that the failure to take the necessary steps on an important issue such as infertility points to the wrong policy priorities. İMAD-DER demanded that families who cannot have children be included in the support policies, saying, "Transportation discounts and other incentives should cover not only families with children, but also families waiting to have children."
JOINT WORK REQUESTS REMAIN UNRESPONSED
İMAD-DER officials stated that their requests to establish a joint commission with relevant institutions have so far remained unanswered. Association representatives, who said, "Infertile families are not alone. We want to be seen, heard and supported," invited the Ministry of Health and all relevant institutions in particular to take concrete steps.
