The Infertility Struggle Research and Solidarity Association (İMAD-DER) announced that the infertility rate has reached 24 percent worldwide, while in Turkey this rate is approaching 20 percent. The association warned that infertility is not only an individual health problem, but also a crisis that threatens the future of society.
“Infertile Families Await Support”
İMAD-DER emphasized in its statement that infertile couples have been deprived of state support for years. Association officials stated that treatment drugs outside the scope of the Social Security Institution (SGK) pose a great financial burden for families, that disease reports are difficult to obtain, and that solution suggestions have remained unanswered for years.
“While the infertility rate in our country today has reached 20 percent, infertile families are still ignored. Our demands and calls for solutions are not heeded. It is difficult to obtain a health report, drugs are expensive, and the treatment process is becoming impossible for many families,” it was stated.
“Our Requests for Cooperation with Relevant Institutions Were Not Responded”
İMAD-DER officials stated that they had applied to both the Ministry of Health and other relevant institutions several times to establish joint work and solution-oriented commissions, but they had not received any response.
The association emphasized that effective policies should be developed in the fight against infertility and concrete support mechanisms should be established for infertile families.
The statement concluded with the following statements: “We call out once again: Infertile families are not alone. They are also a part of society and expect support.”
